3rd party lab test results for Clean Coffee Founder's Select Dark Roast

Unlike other brands, we put our 3rd party lab testing data where our "mouth" (aka marketing) is. When we say that Clean Coffee is tested for mold, mycotoxins, and more, we mean it and we are happy to show you the numbers so you don't just have to take our word for it!

Why is 3rd Party Testing important?

Third-party testing is important because it shows that a third party, independent from us, our manufacturing partners, and our suppliers has verified the quality and purity of our product.

This means that our product claims are actual facts and that we've invested the time, money, and resources to demonstrate this to you, our customers, so you know exactly what's going into your body when you drink a cup of Clean Coffee.

How do you evaluate the coffee beans before they are tested? 

Coffee is an annual crop which means that all of the salable coffee beans are harvested once per year.

Our evaluation process begins with the selection of a given crop of hand picked, single origin, specialty grade arabica coffee that is, at minimum, grown in adherence to USDA Organic standards and sustainable farming methods.

A representative sample of coffee from a selected crop is then roasted according to our exacting specifications and sent to the 3rd party lab for testing.

Where is Clean Coffee tested?

Our Clean Coffee is tested by Eurofins, an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, and an industry leader in the analytical testing of food products.

What do you test Clean Coffee for?

All varieties of Clean Coffee are tested for:

✔️ Mold

✔️ Mycotoxins

✔️ Yeast

✔️ Gluten

✔️ Acrylamide

✔️ Heavy Metals 

✔️ Pesticides 

What happens after the coffee is tested?

If the lab test results show any sign of mold, mycotoxins, pesticides, or other contaminants, we move on and do not use that coffee.

If the lab test results come back "clean", however, we will purchase a supply of green coffee from the selected crop which we then import and store in temperature controlled warehouses.

We then regularly pull batches of green coffee from our warehoused supply, roast it, bag it in nitrogen flushed packaging, and ship it to you.

Note: Acrylamide is a natural byproduct of the roasting process so our goal with this test is to ensure that acrylamide levels are minimized. Similarly, heavy metals are naturally present in soil, so trace amounts of heavy metals are to be expected. However, our testing process ensures that the levels of heavy metals present are far below (1000x below in fact!) the safe daily consumption limits set by the WHO. How do you present your test results? Are they edited or altered?

We do not alter or edit the results of our 3rd party lab testing in any way, so the results we share with you are the same analytical report documents we receive directly from Eurofins. 

However, this means that you are viewing a technical document and accurate interpretation requires an understanding of how analytical lab test results are reported.

To help interpret the information presented, please keep in mind the following:

  • Mold and Yeast are reported in "cfu/g" (colony forming units per gram) and a "colony forming unit" is a single, viable bacteria or fungal cell.
  • Acrylamide is reported in "ug/kg" (micrograms per kilogram) a metric measurement equivalent to ppb (parts per billion).
  • Heavy metals are reported in "ppm" (parts per million).
  • Pesticides and mycotoxins are reported in "mg/kg" (milligrams per kilogram) a metric measurement equivalent to "ppm" (parts per million).
  • When a "<" (less than) symbol is reported in front of a result, the result value reflects the limit of the analytical test sensitivity. Therefore this type of result is the equivalent of "none detected".

How often do you test Clean Coffee?

Each year, we test a variety of individual coffee crops and only the best of the best is selected to become Clean Coffee.

This means that you can expect to see new test results reported annually and/or when a new crop is selected.
